How long does it take for the side effects of Cymbalta to stop? I was on Cymbalta 60mg for about 6 months and decided to stop due to price, the absence of any real benefits and cumbersome side effects (like having the sex drive of an 80 year old). Anyways, I phased myself off it for a week or two and It's been about 3 weeks since I stopped taking it. Most of the side effects are gone, but I still get these headrushes sometimes. Any ideas on how much longer this should take?

Difference and side effects of Cymbalta and Zoloft? I have been taking Zoloft for five years - during this time, I have gained a lot of weight. I've also been feeling quite anxious and depressed over the past few months. Therefore, I am tapering off the Zoloft and my GP has put me on Cymbalta. Has anyone tried Cymbalta after being on Zoloft and how would you compare the two? What side effects does Cymbalta have for you? Has it helped with depression and anxiety? Thanks!!

Adrena replied: "ok my first advice is TO STOP TAKING THEM NOW. I did the same thing you are doing, I was on Zoloft for awhile and my doctor decided to switch me to cymbalta and make it stronger. I went from having a sex drive to losing all interest in anything what so ever. I had horrible night sweats and lost alot of weight. I just stopped taking them about 3 weeks ago and im honestly happy i did this because i can feel emotions again and i am still losing weight from the withdraw symptoms ( which are INSANE ) .... i would tapper off of them or if you think you can take the withdraw symptoms stop taking htem all together !!. I have not had any good results come out of anti depressants .... stick to herbs! I lost my mind and im slowing getting it back .... i throw away a two eyar realtionship because he could not stand the person they mad eme become."

valygirl7202 replied: "Cymbalta gave me the worst suicidal thoughts EVER. Luckily I realized it was the medicine and got off of it quickly. I now take pristiq and am pretty happy with it. Everyone is different though, so what may not work for me, may work great for you. Good luck!"

jackie replied: "I took sertraline (zoloft) for three months, gained a ton of weight and abruptly stopped it. I then begain taking wellbutrin. While I realize zoloft is an SSRI and wellbutrin is an antidepressant, I have now lost all the zoloft weight and an additional five pounds and the wellbutrin seems to work a lot better. Everyone is different and you have to find the right med for U. Trial and error is the trick to finding it. Good luck. I wish you the very best."

what meds can i take that don't have sexual side-effects like cymbalta does? currently i'm on cymbalta, wellbutrin, and geodon and have been having erectile difficulties which is hurting my relationship a lil bit. does anyone know of any combination of meds i can take that wouldn't have the type of side-effects that there are now?

luvacat3 replied: "If the cymbalta is helping you, you can try antidotes including amphetemines (adderall) and/or viagra & see if that will overcome the problem. Wellbutrin is another antidote & obviously that isn't working for you. This antidote thing didn't work for me, but my psychiatrist says it does work for many patients. Ask your doctor about trying these two pre ions as antidotes. Otherwise, wellbutrin, mitrazapine, Emsam (MAOI inhibitor patch, super $$$$) don't cause sexual problems. I personally wasn't willing to put up with the cymbalta, even though it is the only drug that ever helped my bipolar disorder. Finally, your gf/wife shouldn't be giving you a hard time about a side effect of the medication. That isn't being supportive! There are some other ways to fool around besides intercourse."

What are the side effects of Cymbalta? I take 60 mg's daily and forgot my pill yesterday. I remembered when Itook my pill this afternoon. I think I'm having withdrawals, I am disoriented and a little nauseas, is this normal?

Crazy Taurus replied: "I take the same thing! Ummm i didnt get naseous but i did feel wooozie and very emotional. Crying left and right! So i think its normal."

ambr123 replied: "Yes, you can have withdrawal symptoms if you stop taking Cymbalta-usually feel dizzy/nauseous and tired."

How long does it take for the side effects of Cymbalta to taper off? I just started taking it and I feel awful. Just wondering how long I had to wait it out. Thanks a bunch

Peace Yo replied: "It differs for everyone. Things that affect the detox period are the individuals biology, length of time they were on it and length of time they take to wean off of it."

How long before side effects of cymbalta taper off? Anyone have any luck with this med? And how long did it take to get used to it? I've been taking it a few days and I'm "five shots of espresso" wound up.

DavidC replied: "When will Cymbalta begin to work? In clinical studies, many people taking Cymbalta began to feel improvement in their symptoms as early as one to four weeks after starting Cymbalta. As with any treatment, results vary from person to person. What happens when you stop taking Cymbalta? Like other antidepressants, Cymbalta should not be stopped suddenly. Stopping Cymbalta suddenly may result in symptoms like dizziness, nausea or headache. Talk with your doctor or healthcare professional before stopping Cymbalta as he or she may wish to decrease the dose slowly to help you avoid these kinds of symptoms."

Anyone had any side effects from Cymbalta? It's a new depression medication out. And, did your side effects resolve in a few weeks while you were still one it?

pamspremierparties replied: "I didn't experience any side effects from it, unlike other meds I had tried. I did experience side effects from Effexor, Wellbutrin, etc, but not from Cymbalta - I really love it."

Has anyone else had bad side effects from Cymbalta? I took it twice and I felt extremely nasceous. My body ached so bad and had a severe headache. It was so bad I stayed in bed the entire weekend.

jackmatt replied: "I get some burning nerve pains in different areas of my body (aka parasthesias) RN"

Can anyone relate to having these side effects from taking Cymbalta? I've been taking Cymbalta for 8 months now,for about a month or so I've experienced hair thinning, frequent urination, having short memory, and the texture of my hair has also changed.I told my doctor about it and he changed my dosage from 60mg to 30mg,which I've been taking for 6 days now.I hope this will make a difference.Has anyone had these same problems from taking Cymbalta?

buttercup replied: "I think short memory may go along with depression as well as the medications. I may be mistaken on this one...but isn't thinning hair a possible side effect of Cymbalta? Be very careful if you take any other medications (especially antidepressants) with it. About a year ago, I had a family member forced to go to a mental health clinic for evaluation through a custody battle. The psychiatrist had him on an antidepressant and anxiety agent. He added Cymbalta to the medication. He took one pill and when he woke up the next morning, he was in bad shape. He fixed his daughter breakfast four times as though he hadn't done it. It took 48 hours for us to find a hospital that believed there was a problem! By this time, he was delusional and talking to his daughter in the car seat who was not even with us. He wound up in the hospital for several days. The antidepressants should never have been mixed!"

Raju replied: "You practice meditation for 15 minutes daily in the early morning without any disturbance. If possible do evening hours also. You will get relief from almost all the diseases. First you believe meditation and pray God or Nature for getting relief from all the diseases. Then pray for peace of mind to you and then pray for world peace. Thanks."

Dennis replied: "The only things I've noticed are difficulty starting to urinate and some difficulty sexually. Other than that, Cymbalta has worked well for me. I've read the entire data sheet that comes with cymbalta, and the changes you describe were not discussed. I would be concerned because the hair is a key indicator of health. I doubt it is from the cymbalta though."

sillyville replied: "I was on cymbalta for over a year. i am dying to see what happens now that i'm off it for 2 months. my hair is horrible. it was never thick, but the kind of thin hair that always looked good. I even looked at old photos, and it was shiny and i would get compliments. i have had people ask me what happened. I thought it was because i color it (which i've been doing for 30 years) so I stopped doing that. i thought it was the blow drting, so i stopped that as well. it's just thin and fried looking. and yes, i know it was my medication. no other reason that i could think of."
